Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has taken a swipe at his Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo by saying that the Portuguese is not at the same level he has been for the last few years.
Ronaldo is leading the race to become the top goal scorer in Spain. He is ahead of second placed Lionel Messi by a couple of goals. His recent hat-trick against Espanyol in the 4-1 victory has been a major turning point in the race for the Golden Boot award. However, Messi is likely to end up with much more trophies than Ronaldo after the Argentine has already completed the league title with Barcelona.
Madrid, on the other hand, will be only left with the likes of the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup that they won at the start and the middle of the season. At 30 years of age, Ronaldo is at the wrong end of his career and Suarez has only accelerated his perceived decline by suggesting that the Portuguese has lost a lot of magic in recent times. Ronaldo has won the last two FIFA world Player of the Year titles, but he is still behind Messi. The Argentine holds the all-time record after having won this title four times.
“Messi is natural, it is his character. He is the best in the world, but he was born with his qualities. Ronaldo has progressed and worked a lot to perform how he does. He’s not at the same level he was when he started.I think Leo is the best,” said Suarez. Meanwhile, Sky Sports pundit GuillemBalague says that Madrid would benefit if Ronaldo starts playing more as a team player rather than as an individual. The 30-year-old has been criticised heavily for not celebrating goals scored by his teammates.
