Head coach of Spanish giant; Real Madrid Zinedine Zidane says fans will have to wait till Tuesday for the club’s talisman in Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are in the Real Madrid squad for Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg at Manchester City but both players are in doubt.
Last week, Zidane said: “We did the scans and he has nothing serious, but he cannot play tomorrow. Then we will see about Tuesday.
“I hope it’s nothing and he can play on Tuesday but right now I can’t tell you.”
French forward, Benzema limped off before half-time against Rayo with an apparent hamstring problem but the player is expected to partake in the game as Madrid hope to extend their 10 Champions League titles.
Real Madrid defender, Dani Carvajal, returns to the Champions League squad after being rested against Rayo.
Ronaldo appears to be winning the fitness battle ahead of the encounter and hopes to be full fit before the game. The player has only failed to start two club matches since February last year and will represent the major threat to City on Tuesday.
However, former Barcelona and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry says City cannot just focus on Ronaldo should he start.
“It amazes me that some people still question if he is one of the all-time greats. The guy is a phenomenon.
“But City can’t afford to be hypnotized by one guy when the two sides clash on Tuesday. Madrid have far too much quality in every position.
“There is no doubt that Ronaldo is a better player when he is alongside Karim Benzema, who provides Madrid with the perfect attacking balance along with Gareth Bale.
“Most teams go two or three goals up and then take their strikers off to give them a rest. Like Barcelona, Real just keep going for the kill, turning a 3-0 win into a 7-0 or 8-0 victory,” the Frenchman told The Sun.
